Botswana
Botswana is a southern African land-locked country, dominated in geographical terms by a sand-filled basin called The Kalahari Desert. Their citizens are referred to as 'Batswana' or individually as 'Motswana'. The country is bordered by Zambia and Zimbabwe to the north-east, Namibia to the north and west, and South Africa to the south and south-east. At Kazungula (meaning small sausage tree), 4 countries - Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Namibia - meet at a single point mid-stream in the Zambezi River, a feature unmatched throughout the world.

Apart from the Okavango and Chobe areas in the north, the country has little permanent surface water. At approximately 581,730km², Botswana is about the size of France or Kenya. The combination of a well-respected and regulated diamond industry, with a stable and peaceful government, has made this country one of the regions' main economic successes.

Botswana has much to offer its visitors. The Okavango Delta, the world's largest inland delta, is in the north-west. The Makgadikgadi Pans National Park (with its large salt pan) and Nxai Pan National Park, lie in the north. The Chobe National Park and Moremi Game Reserve (in the Okavango Delta) are also major tourist destinations. Less visited, but still a fantastic tourist destinations in its own right, is the Central Kalahari Game Reserve located in the Kalahari Desert.
